Abstract
A novel cellulase composition is provided which is producible by an Actinomycete. The cellulase has an approximate calculated molecular weight of 36 kD and has a pH optimum at 40° C. of 8 and at 60° C. of 7. Also provided is a DNA encoding said cellulase, a method for producing the cellulase and applications thereof.

An isolated cellulase comprising the amino acid sequence provided in SEQ ID NO:1 or a derivative thereof having cellulolytic activity and at least 90% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:1 wherein said sequence identity is determined by using the TFastA Data Searching Program.
An isolated cellulase derived from Actinomycetes that has a molecular weight of approximately 36kD as measured on SDS-PAGE, a calculated isoelectric point of about 5.9 and a pH optimum on carboxy methyl cellulose of about 8 at 40° C. and 7 at 60° C.
