Abstract
This invention provides esters of acetoacetic acid useful as adhesion promoters for waterborne coatings compositions applied to corroded or rusty metal substrates. The esters of acetoacetic acid also function as a coalescing aid in the coating composition.
Claims7
A method for coating a substrate, comprising forming a waterborne coating composition comprising:
- (A) a waterborne alkyd dispersion polymer,
- (B) a compound of Formula (I):
- (R1C(═O)CH2COO)xR2,
- wherein R1 is a C1-C6 alkyl group, R2 is a C1-C6 alkyl group or the residue of a polyol and x is an integer of from 1 to 3, with the proviso that (B) contains no substitutes that are reactive with (A);
- and
- applying said waterborne coating composition to a substrate.
