Abstract
A method for calendering the sheet material web includes carrying the sheet material web on one or more carrier fabrics through the calender nip formed by the first and second calender rolls and applying a load to the carrier fabric, and sheet material carried thereby, so as to reduce the thickness of the sheet material web.
Claims23
A method for calendering a sheet material web, said method comprising:
- transferring said sheet material web from a drying section to at least one carrier fabric, said sheet material web having a first thickness as it leaves said drying section;
- carrying said sheet material web on said at least one carrier fabric through a calender nip, said calender nip formed by a first and second calender roll;
- and
- reducing the thickness of said sheet material web from said first thickness to a second thickness by applying a load to said carrier fabric and said sheet material carried thereby with said first and second calender rolls at said nip;
- wherein said second thickness is from about 20% to 50% of said first thickness.
2 more elements
A method for calendering a dried sheet material web, said method comprising:
- transferring said sheet material web, having a moisture content less than or equal to about 10%, from a drying section to at least one carrier fabric, said sheet material web having a first thickness as it leaves said driving section;
- and
- carrying said dried sheet material web on said at least one carrier fabric though a calender nip, said calender nip formed by a first and second calender roll, reducing the thickness of said sheet material web from said first thickness to a second thickness;
- wherein said second thickness is from about 20% to 50% of said first thickness.
1 more element
A method for reducing the caliper of a sheet material web, said method comprising:
- providing a carrier fabric comprising a reinforcing structure at least partially encapsulated in a polymer matrix, said polymer matrix defining a substantially monoplanar and continuous web contacting surface;
- transferring said sheet material web from a drying section to said carrier fabric;
- supporting said sheet material web on said web contacting surface of said carrier fabric, said sheet material web having a first thickness;
- and
- passing said carrier fabric with said sheet material web supported thereon through a nip, said sheet material web having a second thickness after passing through said nip;
- wherein said second thickness is from about 20% to 50% of said first thickness.
