Abstract
The invention includes a system for processing telecommunications signaling. Signaling for a call is received into a signaling processor. The signaling processor processes the call and generates new signaling incorporating the processing. The new signaling is transferred to network elements as appropriate. The signaling processor is not coupled to a switch matrix and only communicates with the network elements over signaling links.
Claims16
A method of call processing wherein a user transfers a call set-up signaling message to a telecommunications network that comprises at least one network element connected to a communication path and wherein a signaling processor is linked to the network element and the user, the method comprising:
- receiving the call set-up signaling message from the user into the signaling processor wherein the call set-up signaling message is not received and processed by the network element connected to the communication path, wherein the signaling processor only communicates with the network element over a signaling link, and wherein the signaling processor is not coupled to a switch matrix;
- performing call processing in the signaling processor in response to the call set-up signaling message to produce a new signaling message that directs the network element to provide a telecommunications service;
- and
- transmitting the new signaling message to the network element connected to the communication path.
