Abstract
In vivo polymerizable intraocular lens compositions which comprise substituted fluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkyl monomers having anionic, cationic, and/or nonionic surface active functionality in the unsaturated fluorophobic ends. The compositions are preferably cured by UV photoinitiation and are useful in repairing torn or detached retinal tissue or forming intraocular lenses in situ.
Claims8
A method of repairing torn or detached retinal tissue comprising administering to the site in need of repair the ophthalmic composition comprising an ophthalmically acceptable vehicle and a biocompatible, in vivo polymerizable monomer of the structure
- wherein n is 2-20;
- w is 1-20;
- q is 1, 1;
- Y is H, F;
- T is —CH═CH—, —CH2—C(═CH2)—;
- R is OH, O−M+, OCH3, NH(CH2)nN(CH3)3+X−, (OCH2CH2)wN(CH3)3+X−, OCH2C(CH2OH)3,
- R′ is H, CH3′CH2CO2H, CH2COO−M+;
- m is 1-100;
- M+ is a pharmaceutically acceptable cation;
- and
- X− is a pharmaceutically acceptable anion,
- and then polymerizing the composition in vivo using a photoinitiator selected from the group consisting of UV photoinitiators and blue-light photoinitiators.
