Abstract
A document management apparatus has a scripting language which controls documents by setting the attributes of documents. Attributes are pieces of data within a document. A script engine reads a script from a cache memory and launches the processes to accomplish the desired action of the script. A scheduler controls the script engine and an active queue and a blocked queue in order to carry out multi-threaded execution.
Claims6
A document management apparatus for managing operations with respect to a document, said operations specified by a number of users, said apparatus comprising:
- A) a scheduler for controlling execution of a process that performs a user-specified operation with respect to said document, said process including at least one thread of execution;
- B) a memory having a plurality of containers associated with said document, said containers including:
- i) at least one permanent attribute container for storing information with respect to said document that is global among all said users;
- ii) at least one ephemeral attribute container for storing information with respect to said document that is specific to at least one of said users;
- and
- iii) at least one local attribute container for storing information with respect to said document that is specific to said at least one thread of execution with respect to said document.
A method for managing operations with respect to a document specified by a number of users, said method comprising the steps of:
- A) executing a process that performs a user-specified operation with respect to information concerning said document, said process including at least one thread of execution;
- and
- B) storing said information associated with said document in a plurality of containers, said step of storing information further including the steps of:
- i) storing information with respect to said document that is global among all said users in at least one permanent attribute container;
- ii) storing information with respect to said document that is specific to a workspace of at least one of said users in at least one ephemeral attribute container;
- and
- iii) storing information with respect to said document that is specific to said at least one thread of execution with respect to said document in at least one local attribute container.
