Abstract
Multi-phase switched reluctance machines use a phase excitation sequence that avoids consecutively exciting adjacent phases and so leads to reduced torque ripple. Corresponding methods are also provided.
Claims23
A switched reluctance drive comprising a switched reluctance machine having n phase windings, where n is an odd integer greater than three, and a controller having means for energizing the n phase windings to avoid consecutive energization of adjacent phase windings in the machine.
A method of operating a switched reluctance drive that has means for energizing five or more phase windings in a machine, the method comprising consecutively energizing non-adjacent phase windings to reduce torque ripple.
A switched reluctance machine having n phase windings, where n is an odd integer greater than three, and a controller for energizing the n phase windings to avoid consecutive energization of adjacent phase windings in the machine.
