Pyridopyrimidine analogs and related compounds and methods for treating inflammatory conditions

A compound having the structure:

• ##STR6## wherein R.sub.10 is selected from the following structures:
• ##STR7## A is [C(R.sub.7) or] N;
• R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 are independently selected from hydrogen or an unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.1-8 alkyl or C.sub.6-12 aryl;
• R.sub.2 is selected from an unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.1-8 alkyl, C.sub.6-12 aryl, C.sub.7-12 aralkyl, C.sub.3-12 heterocycle or C.sub.4-16 heterocyclealkyl;
• R.sub.4 is selected from hydrogen or an unsubstituted C.sub.1-8 alkyl;
• R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are independently selected from hydrogen, --NO.sub.2, --CN, halogen, C.sub.1-8 alkyl, X--C.sub.1-8 alkyl, C.sub.3-12 heterocycle or --COOR.sub.9, where X is selected from --O--, --S--, --S(.dbd.O)--, --S(.dbd.O).sub.2 --, --NH-- or --N(C.sub.1-8 alkyl)--, and R.sub.9 is selected from hydrogen or an unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.1-8 alkyl, C.sub.6-12 aryl or C.sub.7-12 aralkyl;
• R.sub.11 is selected from hydrogen or an unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.1-8 alkyl or C.sub.6-12 aryl;
• and
• R.sub.12 is selected from hydrogen, --COOR.sub.9, --CONHR.sub.9, or an unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.1-8 alkly or C.sub.6-12 aryl.
