Abstract
The present invention provides a method for determining the coagulation propensity of blood wherein a condition in a portion of a blood sample is assessed and related to the onset of coagulation. Apparatus for performing the method is encompassed by the invention.
Claims4
A method of assessing the coagulation propensity of blood comprising the steps of:
- providing a blood sample;
- assessing a condition in a portion of the blood sample, wherein the condition is the concentration of red blood cells in the portion;
- and
- relating the condition to the coagulation propensity of the blood sample.
A method of optically measuring coagulation time of a blood sample which comprises the steps of directing a light beam into an optical path into which red blood cells settle over time and relating the time it takes said settling to occur to the onset of coagulation.
