Abstract
A novel 54 kDa human macrophage metalloelastase (HME) having elastolytic activity and the cDNA which encodes for this enzyme are disclosed.

An isolated cDNA that encodes for the 470 amino acid human macrophage metalloelastase (HME) shown in FIG. 1A SEQ ID NO:2.
Isolated cDNA having the nucleotide sequence of basepairs 1-1410 shown in FIGS. 5A to 5D SEQ ID NO:1.
