Abstract
The invention relates to novel bicyclic aromatic compounds which have the general formula (I): ##STR1## as well as to the use of these compounds in pharmaceutical compositions intended for use in human or veterinary medicine (dermatological, rheumatic, respiratory, cardiovascular and ophthalmological complaints in particular), or alternatively in cosmetic compositions.
Claims10
A bicyclic aromatic compound, having the general formula (I):
- ##STR7## in which, R.sub.1 represents (i) the CH.sub.3 radical
- (ii) the radical --CH.sub.2 OR.sub.5
- (iii) the radical --COR.sub.6
- Ar is a radical of formula(a):
- ##STR8## X represents ##STR9## R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, which may be identical or different, represent (i) a hydrogen atom,
- (ii) an alkyl radical having at least 3 carbon atoms, among which the carbon attached to the phenyl radical is substituted with at least two carbon atoms,
- (iii) a radical --OR.sub.5,
- (iv) a radical --SR.sub.5,
- with the proviso that R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, taken together, may form with the adjacent aromatic ring a 6-membered ring optionally substituted with methyl groups,
- with the further proviso that R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 cannot at the same time have the meanings (i), (iii) and (iv) and with the further proviso that if R.sub.2 is hydrogen then R.sub.3 does not have meaning (ii) and if R.sub.3 has meaning (ii) than R.sub.2 is not hydrogen,
- R.sub.4 and R.sub.7, which may be identical or different, represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a linear or branched alkyl radical having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms or a radical --OR.sub.5,
- R.sub.5 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl radical or a radical --COR.sub.10
- R.sub.6 represents:
- (a) a hydrogen atom
- (b) a lower alkyl radical
- (c) a radical of formula:
- ##STR10## (d) a radical --OR.sub.11 R.sub.8 and R.sub.9, which may be identical or different, represent a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl radical,
- R.sub.10 represents a lower alkyl radical,
- R.sub.11 represents a hydrogen atom, a linear or branched alkyl radical having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkenyl radical, a mono- or polyhydroxyalkyl radical, or an optionally substituted aryl or aralkyl radical,
- R' and R", which may be identical or different, represent a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl radical, a mono- or polyhydroxyalkyl radical, or an optionally substituted aryl radical, with the provision that R' and R" are not at the same time lower alkyl,
- a salt thereof or an optical or geometrical isomer thereof.
