Abstract
A composition and method for promoting improved adhesion between a thermoplastic resinous substrate and polyurethane foam is provided. In one aspect of this invention, the composition comprises a thermoplastic mixture of at least one polyphenylene ether and at least one poly(alkenylaromatic) compound; and at least one primary amine-containing material or secondary amine-containing material.
Claims11
A composition for a resinous thermoplastic substrate, wherein said substrate adheres to a foam surface, and wherein said composition comprises;
- a mixture of at least one polyphenylene ether and at least one poly(alkenylaromatic) compound;
- and at least one primary amine-containing material or secondary amine-containing material, wherein the primary amine-containing material is selected from the group consisting of cyclohexylamine, 1-hexadecylamine, and a poly[oxy(methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)]-.alpha.-hydro-.omega.-(2-aminomethylethox y)ether with 2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol in a ratio of 3:1 as in the formula ##STR3## wherein the sum of x+y+z is about 5-6, and wherein the secondary amine-containing material is selected from the group consisting of diethylamine, dipropylamine, and polyethylenimines.
A composition for a resinous thermoplastic substrate, wherein said substrate adheres to a foam surface, and wherein said composition comprises a mixture of at least about 20% by weight of at least one poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether) and about 20-80% by weight of at least one polystyrene, both weights being based on the combined weight of the at least one poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether) and the at least one polystyrene;
- and 2-20% by weight of the total composition of a primary amine, wherein the primary amine consists of at least one poly[oxy(methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)]-.alpha.-hydro-.omega.-(2-aminomethylethox y)ether with 2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol in a ratio of 3:1 as in the formula ##STR6## in which the sum of x+y+z is about 5-6.
