Abstract
The present invention relates to polyaromatic compounds having useful antiviral activity against viruses of the herpes family, to a composition containing them, and to a method of using them for the treatment of herpes viruses infections.
Claims6
A method for treating herpes virus infection in patients which comprises topically administering to the herpetic lesion on the skin of said patients an effective amount of a compound of formula II or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof wherein:
- R.sub.2 is ##STR32## W is (a) .dbd.O, or
- (b) .dbd.S;
- X is
- (a) --H,
- (b) --CH.sub.3, or
- (c) --OCH.sub.3 ;
- Y is
- (a) --CH.sub.3,
- (b) --Cl, and
- (c) --NO.sub.2.
