Abstract
A method of recovering precious metal values from refractory sulfide ores is provided. The method includes the steps of separating clays and fines from a crushed refractory sulfide ore, forming a heap from the refractory sulfide ore, producing a concentrate of refractory sulfide minerals from the separated fines and adding the concentrate to the heap, bioleaching the heap to thereby oxidize iron sulfides contained therein, and hydrometallurgically treating the bioleached ore to recover precious metal values contained therein.
Claims16
A process for recovering metal values from a concentrate of sulfide mineral particles having a particle size of 80 to 90% less than 100 mesh, the process comprising the steps of:
- a. distributing the concentrate of sulfide mineral particles on top of a heap of coarse support material;
- b. biooxidizing the concentrate of sulfide mineral particles;
- c. leaching metal values from the biooxidized sulfide mineral particles;
- and
- d. recovering metal values leached from the biooxidized sulfide mineral particles.
A process for recovering metal values from a refractory sulfide ore, the process comprising the steps of:
- a. producing a concentrate of sulfide mineral particles having a particle size of 80 to 90% less than 100 mesh from the ore,
- b. spreading the concentrate of sulfide mineral particles on top of a heap of coarse support material;
- c. biooxidizing the concentrate of sulfide mineral particles;
- d. leaching metal values from the biooxidized sulfide mineral particles;
- and
- e. recovering metal values leached from the biooxidized sulfide mineral particles.
