Abstract
The present invention relates to compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is defined in the specification, and non-toxic metabolically labile esters and amides thereof are useful as modulators of metabotropic glutamate receptor function.

A compound of the formula ##STR22## in which R.sup.1 represents NO.sub.2 ;
- or a non-toxic metabolically labile ester or amide thereof;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A method of modulating metabotropic glutamate receptor function in a mammal which comprises administering an effective amount of a compound of formula I;
- or a non-toxic metabolically labile ester or amide thereof;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
