Abstract
A method and apparatus for forming a covered endoprosthesis employs a conformed polymeric coating about an expandable stent. The expandable stent has an open tubular construction. A first polymeric liner is positioned about an inner surface of the tubular stent and a second polymeric liner is positioned about an outer surface of the tubular stent. The first and second polymeric liners are conformed to the tubular stent and laminated together through the open construction of the stent at a location coextensive with the inner surface of the tubular stent.
Claims13
A composite intraluminal device comprising:
- an elongate expandable stent having an open-construction tubular body defined by stent segments and openings between said stent segments, said tubular body defining a generally cylindrically shaped inner surface and an opposed outer surface;
- a first polymeric liner positioned about said inner surface of said tubular body;
- and
- a second polymeric liner positioned about said outer surface of said tubular body;
- wherein said first liner and said second liner are adheringly joined at a location at or within said inner surface of said tubular body.
An intraluminal prosthetic device comprising:
- an elongate tubular polymeric liner;
- an elongate tubular stent disposed over said liner, said stent including a generally cylindrical inner stent surface and an outer stent surface, said stent having an open construction defined by stent segments and spaces therebetween;
- and
- a polymeric cover disposed over said stent and adhered to said liner through said spaces between said stent segments at a location at or within said inner stent surface;
- said liner, stent, and cover providing at least three domains of distinct porosity at locations along the length thereof.
