Abstract
Compounds and ink compositions. An ink composition comprising a compound of Formula (1) and salts thereof: ##STR1## wherein Ch represents an arrangement of atoms which causes the compound to absorb electromagnetic radiation; R.sup.a and R.sup.b each independently is a spacer group; Y is an interactive functional group; w and x each independently is 0 or an integer equal to or greater than 1; and m and n each independently is an integer equal to or greater than 1, provided that w and x are not both equal to zero and when one of w or x is 0 at least one of m and n is equal to or greater than 2. For use in ink jet printing and electrophotography.
Claims10
An ink composition comprising:
- (a) a solvent based medium or a medium comprising (i) or (ii);
- (i) a mixture of water and a water-soluble organic solvent;
- or
- (ii) a low melting point solid;
- and
- (b) a compound of the Formula (1) and salts thereof:
- ##STR82## wherein R.sup.a and R.sup.b each independently is C.sub.2-10 -alkylene or an atom or group comprising at least one atom selected from Si and S;
- Y is an interactive functional group such that the Y groups on different molecules may interact with each other to form complexes of larger size and thus of lower mobility and/or with a substrate, wherein each Y independently is selected from OH, NH.sub.2, NHR.sup.24, COOH, CONH.sub.2, CONHR.sup.24, SO.sub.2 NHR.sup.24, NHCONH.sub.2, NHCONHR.sup.24, .dbd.NOH, OR.sup.24, --NHC(.dbd.NH)NH.sub.2, --SC(.dbd.NH)NH.sub.2 and mono chloro-S-tiazinyl;
- R.sup.24 is alkyl, aryl or arlkyl;
- w and x each independently is 0 or an integer equal to or greater than 1;
- and
- m and n each independently is an integer equal to or gamer than 1, provided that w and x are not both equal to zero and when one of w or x is 0 at least one of m and n is equal to or greater than 2;
- Ch is selected from the group consisting of an optionally substituted group of the Formula (2), (2B) and tautomers thereof, (3), (4) or (5):
- ##STR83## except for 1,4-bis(4-a-rinobutyl)-9,10-anthracenedione and 1,4-bis(3-amninopropyl)-9,10-anthracenedione;
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each independently is --H, or optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy;
- T is A.sup.1 -NH or optionally substituted phenyl;
- T.sup.1 is optionally substituted C.sub.1-12 -alkyl or optionally substituted aryl;
- T.sup.2 is optionally substituted alkyl;
- X is --C(R) or N;
- R is H, CN or COOalkyl;
- R.sup.c and R.sup.d each independently is H, alkyl, alkoxy or halogen and Ring A and Ring B may carry from 1 to 5 optional substituents;
- A is A.sup.1 -N in which A.sup.1 is the residue of a diazositiable aromatic or beteroaromatic amine or;
- selected from an optionally substituted group of Formula (6), (7), (8), (9), (10) or (11);
- ##STR84## K and L each independently is any of the optional substituents listed below, or K and L together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached form a 5- or 6-membered carboncyclic or heterocyclic ring;
- X.sup.1, Y and Z each independently is N or C-R.sup.3 in which R.sup.3 is --H, --CN alkyl, alkoxy, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, aryloxy or amino;
- R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 each independently is an electron withdrawing group or R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 may be joined from a heterocyclic ring;
- R.sup.6 is alkenyl or ##STR85## R.sub.2 is NH.sub.2, phenyl or succinamido;
- X.sup.2 and Y.sup.2 are both c;
- R.sup.7 is --H, alkyl or aryl;
