Liquid crystal display with an adjustment layer to even out height difference in the sealant region

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a substrate having an active matrix circuit and peripheral driving circuits provided thereover;
• a counter substrate, having a counter electrode provided above said substrate, in a face-to-face relationship therewith;
• a sealant disposed between said substrate and said counter substrate such that said sealant surrounds said active matrix circuit and said peripheral driving circuits;
• a liquid crystal material provided inside said sealant;
• a plurality of external connection lines provided over said substrate and under said sealant for electrically connecting said active matrix circuit, said peripheral driving circuits and circuits which are present outside said sealant;
• an adjustment layer provided on the same plane as said plurality of external connection lines,
• wherein said adjustment layer is formed with the same width and intervals as the width and intervals of said plurality of external connection lines.

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a substrate having an active matrix circuit and peripheral driving circuits provided thereover;
• a counter substrate having a counter electrode provided above said substrate in a face-to-face relationship therewith;
• a sealant disposed between said substrate and said counter substrate such that it surrounds said active matrix circuit and said peripheral driving circuits;
• a liquid crystal material provided inside said sealant;
• a plurality of external connection lines provided over said substrate under said sealant for electrically connecting said active matrix circuit, said peripheral driving circuits and circuits which are present outside said sealant;
• an adjustment layer provided on the same plane as said plurality of external connection lines;
• and
• a plurality of lines extending across said sealant and thereunder and having a width smaller than that of each of said plurality of external connection lines and intervals greater than said width provided in a layer different from that of said plurality of external connection lines, wherein said plurality of lines include extensions of scanning lines and signal lines that form said active matrix circuit.

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a substrate having an active matrix circuit and peripheral driving circuits provided thereover;
• a counter substrate, having a counter electrode provided above said substrate, in a face-to-face relationship therewith;
• a sealant disposed between said substrate and said counter substrate such that said sealant surrounds said active matrix circuit and said peripheral driving circuits;
• a liquid crystal material provided inside said sealant;
• a plurality of external connection lines provided over said substrate and under said sealant for electrically connecting said active matrix circuit, said peripheral driving circuits and circuits which are present outside said sealant;
• an adjustment layer provided on the same plane as said plurality of external connection lines;
• and
• a plurality of lines extending across said sealant and thereunder and having a width smaller than that of each of said plurality of external connection lines and intervals greater than said width provided on the same plane as that of said plurality of external connection lines, wherein
• said plurality of lines include extensions of scanning lines and signal lines that form said active matrix circuit;
• and
• said plurality of lines include portions under said sealant where said width is increased.

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a substrate having an active matrix circuit and peripheral driving circuits provided thereover;
• a counter substrate, having a counter electrode provided above said substrate, in a face-to-face relationship therewith;
• a sealant disposed between said substrate and said counter substrate such that said sealant surrounds said active matrix circuit and said peripheral driving circuits;
• a liquid crystal material provided inside said sealant;
• a plurality of external connection lines provided over said substrate and under said sealant for electrically connecting said active matrix circuit, said peripheral driving circuits and circuits present outside said sealant;
• an adjustment layer provided on the same plane as said plurality of external connection lines;
• a plurality of first lines extending across said sealant and thereunder and having a width smaller than that of each of said plurality of external connection lines and intervals greater than said width provided in the same layer as that of said plurality of external connection lines, said plurality of first lines including extensions of either scanning lines or signal lines that form said active matrix display circuit;
• and
• a plurality of second lines extending across said sealant and thereunder and having a width smaller than that of each of said plurality of external connection lines and intervals greater than said width provided in the same layer as that of said plurality of external connection lines, said plurality of second lines including extensions of the other group of lines, the scanning lines or signal lines that form said active matrix display circuit, said plurality of lines including portions under said sealant where said width is increased,
• wherein at least one of said plurality of external connection lines is electrically connected in a parallel to one of a plurality of auxiliary lines provided in a layer different from that of said external connection lines.

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a first substrate;
• an active matrix circuit provided over said first substrate;
• a driving circuit provided over said first substrate for driving said active matrix circuit;
• a wiring provided over said first substrate for supplying signals to said driving circuit from outside of said liquid crystal display, device wherein said wiring comprises a plurality of conductive layers;
• a counter substrate facing said first substrate with a liquid crystal material interposed therebetween;
• a sealant disposed between said first substrate and said counter substrate, wherein said wiring extends across said sealant;
• an adjustment layer located between said sealant and said first substrate, wherein said adjustment layer has a same thickness as said plurality of conductive layers;
• and
• an inter-layer film made of resin formed on said wiring and on said adjustment layer,
• wherein said sealant is located on said inter-layer film.

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a first substrate;
• an active matrix circuit provided over said first substrate;
• a driving circuit provided over said first substrate for driving said active matrix circuit;
• a wiring provided over said first substrate for supplying signals to said driving circuit from outside of said liquid crystal display, device wherein said wiring is formed from a conductive film;
• a counter substrate facing said first substrate with a liquid crystal material interposed therebetween;
• a sealant disposed between said first substrate and said counter substrate, wherein said wiring extends across said sealant;
• an adjustment layer located between said sealant and said first substrate, wherein said adjustment layer is formed from said conductive film;
• and
• an inter-layer film made of resin formed on said wiring and on said adjustment layer,
• wherein said sealant is located on said inter-layer film.
