Abstract
Methods for administering genetic material to dividing neural precursor cell populations in vivo are provided. The genetic material may comprise useful genes for neurotransmitters, growth factors, growth factor receptors, and the like. The genetic material is administered to the brain with one or more growth factors. The growth factors induce proliferation of neural precursor cells, thereby facilitating the incorporation of the genetic material into the cell progeny.
Claims14
A method for the in vivo transfer of a nucleic acid sequence to proliferating neural cells located in the CNS tissue of a juvenile or adult mammal, said method comprising administering to a CNS ventricle of said mammal an exogenous nucleic acid sequence and one or more growth factors to induce in vivo proliferation of neural cells and the transfer of said nucleic acid sequence to the proliferating neural cells, wherein said one or more growth factors induces proliferation of multipotent neural stem cells.
