A method of treating contact lenses made from polymerizable materials by providing supercritical fluids to the lenses.

In a method of dry releasing a contact lens from a mold in which the lens was molded, the improvement of which comprises treating the contact lens while still in the mold with a supercritical fluid.
A method of producing an optically clear contact lens comprising molding the lens from a monomeric mixture in a mold, and treating the contact lens while still in the mold and in a dry state with supercritical fluid, whereby the lens is disengaged from the mold, the supercritical fluid treatment comprising adding a fluid to a treatment chamber and bringing the fluid to a supercritical state within the chamber.
