Abstract

A perforator for making perforations in a continuous film which is thereafter cut into individual filmstrips having variable lengths. A die set unit of the perforator has a plurality of punches and corresponding dies which are respectively arranged along the continuous film. The die set unit performs die-punching N times (N=1, 2, 3 . . . ) in every first section having a variable length Lx, and the measuring feeder transports the continuous film by a first length after each of (N-1) times die-punching and by a second length after the last die-punching for every first section. The first length is given as Lx/N, and the second length corresponds to the first length plus the length L2 of a second section disposed alternately with the first section along the continuous film. In alternative, the die set unit is constituted of first to nth die sets aligned in order from downstream to in the film transporting direction. The ith die set of the die sets has a number Gi (i=1, 2, . . . n) of punches as a segment of the total punches. The first to ith die sets are simultaneously activated to perform die-punching. The number is selected depending on the number F of frame exposure locations to be provided in each individual filmstrip.

Dependent claims

A perforator for forming perforations in a continuous photographic film to allocate at least one perforation to each frame exposure location to be provided in first sections of said continuous photographic film, said first sections alternating with second sections of a constant length along said continuous photographic film, each of said first sections having a length corresponding to a particular frame exposure location number which is selected from among a plurality of predetermined frame exposure location numbers, said perforator comprising:

a feeder for feeding said continuous photographic film along a feed path in a feeding direction by a predetermined length which is determined based on the selected frame exposure location number;
a plurality of die sets adjacent said feed path and sequentially arranged, each of said die sets having a plurality of punches and associated dies arranged at constant intervals of a first length in said feeding direction;
designating means for designating, based on the selected frame exposure location number, the number of said die sets to be actuated, wherein at least one of said die sets is selected to be actuated, and wherein when more than one of said die sets are actuated, said actuated die sets are adjacent;
and
actuating means for actuating, after said continuous photographic film is fed by said predetermined length, the number of said die sets designated to be actuated by the designating means, to thereby form perforations of a number corresponding to the selected frame exposure location number in said first section.

A perforator, for forming perforations in a continuous photographic film, comprising:

a feeder having a feed path which extends in a feeding direction, wherein said feeder is a variable speed feeder capable of operation at variable speeds;
a plurality of die sets arranged along a line, each of said die sets having a plurality of punches fixed thereon and arranged along said line at a constant interval having a first length, wherein adjacent punches of adjacent die sets are separated from each other at an interval having said first length;
at least one cylinder associated with said plurality of die sets, wherein said at least one cylinder is arranged to selectively move said die sets in a punching direction transverse to said feeding direction;
a control unit connected to said feeder and to said at least one cylinder, said control unit controlling the operation speed and duration of said feeder as well as the movement of said at least one cylinder, wherein the control unit contains a plurality of programmed patterns to control said feeder and said at least one cylinder in a set sequence;
a console connected to said control unit, for selecting one of said programmed patterns by which said control unit operates said feeder and said at least one cylinder in a set sequence.
