Abstract
A fiber-reinforced composite material for use in dental restorations such as dental bridges, splints, veneers, and laminates, wherein the composite material comprises a glass fiber material which has been heat treated at a temperature less than or equal to the annealing temperature of the glass for a length of time effective to prevent separation and fraying of the edges of the material upon cutting. The heat treatment therefore greatly enhances the ease of preparation of the dental restorations.
Claims24
A method for restoring or stabilizing one or more teeth, comprising:
- providing a glass fiber material that frays upon cutting;
- heat treating the glass fiber material at a temperature less than or equal to its annealing point, for a period of time effective to prevent fraying of the glass fiber material upon cutting of the material;
- and
- incorporating the heat treated glass fiber material into a polymeric matrix material to form a restoration for restoring or stabilizing one or more teeth.

- a glass fiber material heat treated at a temperature less than or equal to its annealing point, for a period of time effective to prevent fraying of the glass fiber material upon cutting of the material;
- and
- a polymeric matrix material incorporated into the heat treated glass fiber material.
