Abstract
In the past, databases containing three dimensional images were searched by keywords and indexes. For such functionality, a set of keywords must be associated with each image. This is usually performed by a person and is prone to errors. It has now been found that searching of three-dimensional images stored electronically can be performed in dependence upon a variety of criteria such as colour, shape, size, etc. A method is disclosed for searching three dimensional images of objects in dependence upon the above criteria, other images, or other criteria. This obviates the need for keyword indexing of image databases.
Claims23
A method of locating a three-dimensional model of an object comprising the steps of:
- providing a first three-dimensional search model of an object, the three-dimensions being three spatial dimensions;
- determining values corresponding to the first three-dimensional model that are substantially rotationally and translationally invariant in the three spatial dimensions;
- and,
- using a processor, searching for three-dimensional models, the models comprising data relating to each of three spatial dimensions, in a database associated with similar substantially rotationally and translationally invariant values within predetermined limits to those of the first model.
A method of locating a three-dimensional model of an object in a database of scanned three-dimensional models of objects, predetermined characterisations thereof, and associations therebetween comprising the steps of:
- providing a first three-dimensional search model of an object, the search model comprising data relating to each of three spatial dimensions;
- determining values corresponding to the first three-dimensional model that are substantially rotationally and translationally invariant in the three spatial dimensions;
- and,
- in dependence upon the rotationally and translationally invariant values, characterising the first three-dimensional search model to produce a plurality of search characterisations;
- locating, with a processor, predetermined characterisations within the database in dependence upon the plurality of search characterisations;
- and,
- providing, an indication of the scanned three dimensional model associated with the located predetermined characterisations, the model having data relating to each of three spatial dimensions.
A method of locating a three-dimensional model of an object comprising the steps of:
- providing a first three-dimensional search model of an object, the model comprising data relating to each of three spatial dimensions;
- determining first values corresponding to the first three-dimensional model that are substantially rotationally and translationally invariant in the three spatial dimensions;
- providing a second three-dimensional search model, the model comprising data relating to each of three spatial dimensions;
- determining second values corresponding to the second three-dimensional model that are substantially rotationally and translationally invariant in the three spatial dimensions;
- and,
- using a processor, searching for models in a database associated with rotationally and translationally invariant values between the first substantially rotationally and translationally invariant values and the second substantially rotationally and translationally invariant values.
