Abstract
A slow-release insect repellent composition comprising an insect repellent, an oleophilic chemical soluble in the insect repellent, and a carbohydrate matrix wherein the combination of the insect repellent and oleophilic chemical is entrapped in the matrix such that the repellent is released from the matrix, a fabric substrate containing the composition and method for preparing the composition.
Claims17
An article of manufacture comprising (i) a fabric substrate and (ii) an insect-repellant composition, wherein said insect-repellant composition is prepared as an aqueous consisting essentially of an amine insect-repellant, at least two reactive silicones soluble with said amine insect-repellant, and starch;
- said insect-repellant composition being dried into a powder and applied to said fabric at from about 2% to about 30% on weight of fabric (owf), to form said article of manufacture having insect repellancy.
An article of manufacture comprising (i) a fabric substrate and (ii) an insect-repellant composition applied to said substrate, wherein said article of manufacture is prepared by the steps of:
- (a) mixing an aqueous dispersion consisting essentially of N,N'-diethyl-m-tolumide, a reactive silane, and starch;
- and
- (b) spray drying said aqueous dispersion of step (a) to form a powder;
- wherein said article of manufacture has insect-repellancy, and said insect-repellent composition being present on said substrate from about 2% to about 30% (owf).
