Abstract
Conjugates containing a substance with coagulant activity, such as recombinant Factor IX, non-antigenic polymers, such as poly(ethylene glycol), are disclosed. Also disclosed are methods of forming the novel conjugates of this invention.

A method of preparing a conjugate having Factor IX activity comprising reacting a first substance having Factor IX activity with a substantially non-antigenic polymeric substance under conditions sufficient to effect conjugation of said first substance and said polymeric substance with a linkage containing a hydrazide or hydrazone functional group while maintaining at least a portion of the activity of the first substance.
