Abstract
The invention provides LCT1 nucleic acids which encode metal ion uptake transporters. The invention also provides methods of modulating heavy metal and alkali metal uptake in plants. The methods involve producing transgenic plants comprising a recombinant expression cassette containing an LCT1 nucleic acid linked to a plant promoter.
Claims29
An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising at least about 100 nucleotides of an LCT1 polynucleotide sequence, which modulates metal uptake in a plant, wherein the polynucleotide sequence specifically hybridizes to SEQ ID NO:
- 1 under stringent conditions, wherein the stringent conditions comprise at least one wash in 0.2.times. SSC at a temperature of at least about 50.degree. C. for about 20 minutes.
An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising an LCT1 polynucleotide sequence, which modulates metal uptake in a plant, wherein the polynucleotide sequence encodes LCT1 polypeptide comprising a sequence as shown in SEQ ID NO:2.
