Abstract
A sequential catalysis of the ring opening polymerization of cyclic organosiloxanes using a base catalyst that can be neutralized by a subsequent redistribution and condensation catalyst such as a Lewis acid catalyst, preferably a phosphonitrilic compound, permits the rapid synthesis of functionalized and poly-functionalized silicone copolymers such as alkenyl hydride copolymers, a new composition of matter. The instant claims are drawn to branched siloxanes having both Si--H and Si-alkenyl groups.
Claims11
A silicone polymer having the formula:
- M.sub.u D.sup.n.sub.q T.sub.r Q.sub.s
- having at least two D.sub.q where each D.sub.q is different from every other D.sub.q where n is a counting index counting the number of different D.sub.q, and where each D has the formula:
- D=SiR.sup.1 R.sup.2 O.sub.2/2
- where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 in each D.sub.q is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and one to forty carbon atom monovalent hydrocarbon radicals where each subscript q of D.sub.q is independently one or greater;
- M=R.sup.4 R.sup.5 R.sup.6 SiO.sub.1/2
- where R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and one to forty carbon atom monovalent hydrocarbon radicals where the stoichiometric subscript u of M is non-zero and positive;
- T=R.sup.7 SiO.sub.3/2
- where R.sup.7 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and two to forty carbon atom alkenyl groups where the stoichiometric subscript r of T is positive;
- and
- Q=SiO.sub.4/2
- with the stoichiometric subscript s of Q is zero or positive;
- provided that the substituent groups R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, and R.sup.7 are selected such that each molecule of M.sub.u D.sup.n.sub.q T.sub.r Q.sub.s contains at least one hydrogen substituent group and at least one alkenyl substituent group having from two to forty carbon atoms.
