Abstract
The present invention relates to aromatic compounds, namely substituted methyl 2-phenyl-3-methoxy-acrylates of the general formula ##STR1## where X represents an aldimino or ketimino group, in particular a group ##STR2## where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently of one another denote hydrogen, C.sub.1-12 -alkyl, C.sub.1-4 -haloalkyl, and C.sub.1-4 -alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alcyl.

A compound of the formula:
- ##STR23## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-2 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 haloalkyl, C.sub.1-4 alkoxyC.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 alkylthioC.sub.1-4 alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted arylC.sub.1-4 alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted aryloxyC.sub.1-4 alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted arylthioC.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.2-12 alkenyl, unsubstituted or substituted arylC.sub.2-4 alkenyl, C.sub.2-12 alkynyl, C.sub.3-6 cycloalkyl, unsubstituted or substituted aryl, cyano, --COOR.sup.3, --CONR.sup.4 R.sup.5, --COR.sup.6, or --CR.sup.7 .dbd.NOR.sup.8 ;
- and
- R.sup.7 is aryl, unsubstituted or substituted with one or more members selected from the group consisting of halogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 haloalkyl, C.sub.1-4 alkoxyC.sub.1-4 alkyl, arylC.sub.1-4 alkyl, heteroarylC.sub.1-4 alkyl, aryloxyC.sub.1-4 alkyl, heteroaryloxyC.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.2-4 alkenyl, arylC.sub.2-4 alkenyl, heteroarylC.sub.2-4 alkenyl, C.sub.2-4 alkynyl, C.sub.3-6 cycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, C.sub.1-4 haloalkoxy, arylC.sub.1-4 alkoxy, heteroarylC.sub.1-4 alkoxy, C.sub.2-4 alkenyloxy, C.sub.2-4 alkynyloxy, aryloxy, heteroaryloxy, C.sub.1-4 alkylthio, cyano, nitro, NR.sup.9 R.sup.10, COR.sup.11, or COOR.sup.12 ;
- each of R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, and R.sup.8, independently of the other, is hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 -alkyl, or unsubstituted or substituted aryl, in which when aryl is substituted, the substituents are one or more members selected from the group consisting of halogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 haloalkyl, C.sub.1-4 alkoxyC.sub.1-4 alkyl, arylC.sub.1-4 alkyl, heteroarylC.sub.1-4 alkyl, aryloxyC.sub.1-4 alkyl, heteroaryloxyC.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.2-4 alkenyl, arylC.sub.2-4 alkenyl, heteroarylC.sub.2-4 alkenyl, C.sub.2-4 alkynyl, C.sub.3-6 cycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, C.sub.1-4 haloalkoxy, arylC.sub.1-4 alkoxy, heteroarylC.sub.1-4 alkoxy, C.sub.2-4 alkenyloxy, C.sub.2-4 alkynyloxy, aryloxy, heteroaryloxy, C.sub.1-4 alkylthio, cyano, nitro, NR.sup.9 R.sup.10, COR.sup.11, or COOR.sup.12 ;
- and
- each of R.sup.9, R.sup.10, R.sup.11, and R.sup.12 is C.sub.1-4 alkyl or aryl.
