In a composition suitable for making acoustical tiles in a water-felting process, said composition comprising expanded perlite, cellulosic fiber and, optionally, a secondary binder and optionally mineral wool, the improvement comprising said perlite having been treated to reduce its water retention.
A slurry composition suitable for making acoustical tiles in a water-felting process which includes the steps of dewatering and drying, said slurry composition comprising water, expanded perlite, cellulosic fiber and, optionally, a secondary binder and optionally mineral wool, said perlite having been treated with a silicone compound to reduce its water retention, said slurry having a solids content of at least 30% by weight after dewatering and before drying.
A continuous process for making acoustical tiles in a water-felting process which includes the steps of dewatering and drying, said process comprising forming a slurry comprising expanded perlite, cellulosic fiber and, optionally, a secondary binder and optionally mineral wool, with water, said perlite having been treated to reduce its water retention.
