Information processing apparatus including means for inquiring of capacity of external memory

An information processing apparatus which transfers data to memory means of a printer through a bi-directional interface, said information processing apparatus comprising:

• selection means for selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to (1) a total capacity or as to (2) an available capacity of the memory means of the printer, by designating a displayed icon;
• output means for outputting a status request command for inquiring as to the total or available capacity of the memory means of the printer selected by said selection means to the printer through the bi-directional interface;
• input means for inputting status information indicating the selected total or available capacity of the memory means received from the printer through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output by said output means;
• and
• display means for displaying the selected total or available capacity of the memory means on the basis of the status information input by said input means.

A method of displaying status information carried out in an information processing apparatus which transfers data to memory means of a printer through a bi-directional interface, said method comprising the steps of:

• selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to (1) a total capacity or as to (2) an available capacity of the memory means of the printer, by designating a displayed icon;
• outputting a status request command for inquiring as to the total or available capacity of the memory means of the printer selected by said selecting step to the printer through the bi-directional interface;
• inputting status information indicating the selected total or available capacity of the memory means received from the printer through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said output step;
• and
• displaying on display means the selected total or available capacity of the memory means on the basis of the status information input in said input step.

An information processing apparatus which transfers data to memory means of a printer through a bi-directional interface, said information processing apparatus comprising:

• a selector for selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to (1) a total capacity or as to (2) an available capacity of the memory means of the printer, by designating a displayed icon;
• an output device for outputting a status request command for inquiring as to the total or available capacity of the memory means of the printer selected by said selector to the printer through the bi-directional interface;
• an input device for inputting status information indicting the selected total or available capacity of the memory means received from the printer through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output by said output device;
• and
• a display controller for controlling display means to display the selected total or available capacity of the memory means on the basis of the status information input by said input device.

An information processing apparatus which transfers data to memory means of a printer through a bi-directional interface, said information processing apparatus comprising:

• a selector for selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to (1) a total capacity or as to (2) an available capacity of the memory means of the printer, by designating a displayed icon;
• an output device for outputting a status request command for inquiring as to the total or available capacity of the memory means of the printer selected by said selector to the printer through the bi-directional interface;
• an input device for inputting status information indicating the selected total or available capacity of the memory means received from the printer through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output by said output device;
• and
• a display for displaying the selected total or available capacity of the memory means on the basis of the status information input by said input device.

A storage medium storing a program executed in an information processing apparatus which transfers data to memory means of a printer through a bi-directional interface, the program causing the apparatus to perform at least the steps of:

• selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to (1) a total capacity or as to (2) an available capacity of the memory means of the printer, by designating a displayed icon;
• outputting a status request command for inquiring as to the total or available capacity of the memory means of the printer selected by said selecting step to the printer through the bi-directional interface;
• inputting status information indicating the selected total or available capacity of the memory means received from the printer through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said outputting step;
• and
• displaying on display means the selected total or available capacity of the memory means on the basis of the status information input in said inputting step.

A program product executed in an information processing apparatus which transfers data to memory means of a printer through a bi-directional interface, with the program product being such as to cause the apparatus to perform at least the steps of:

• selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to (1) a total capacity or as to (2) an available capacity of the memory means of the printer, by designating a displayed icon;
• outputting a status request command for inquiring as to the total or available capacity of the memory means of the printer selected by said selecting step to the printer through the bi-directional interface;
• inputting status information indicating the selected total or available capacity of the memory means received from the printer through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said outputting step;
• and
• displaying on display means the selected total or available capacity of the memory means on the basis of the status information input in said inputting step.

An information processing apparatus which transfers data to a plurality of memory means of an output apparatus through a bi-directional interface, said information processing apparatus comprising:

• selection means for selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to (1) a total capacity or as to (2) an available capacity of at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus, by using a displayed icon;
• output means for outputting a status request command and for inquiring as to the total or available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus selected by said selection means to the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface;
• input means for inputting status information indicating the selected total or available capacity of the memory means received from the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output by said output means;
• and
• display control means for controlling display means to display the selected total or available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means on the basis of the status information input by said input means.

An information processing method for use in transferring data to a plurality of memory means of an output apparatus through a bi-directional interface, said method comprising the steps of:

• selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to (1) a total capacity or as to (2) an available capacity of at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus, by using a displayed icon;
• outputting a status request command and for inquiring as to the total or available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus selected in said selecting step to the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface;
• inputting status information indicating the selected total or available capacity of the memory means received from the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said outputting step;
• and
• controlling display means to display the selected total or available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means on the basis of the status information input in said inputting step.

A memory medium storing instructions for causing a programmable apparatus to perform an information processing method that is for use in transferring data to a plurality of memory means of an output apparatus through a bi-directional interface, said method comprising the steps of:

• selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to (1) a total capacity or as to (2) an available capacity of at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus, by using a displayed icon;
• outputting a status request command and for inquiring as to the total or available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus selected in said selecting step to the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface;
• inputting status information indicating the selected total or available capacity of the memory means received from the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said outputting step;
• and
• controlling display means to display the selected total or available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means on the basis of the status information input in said inputting step.

A program product for causing a programmable apparatus to perform an information processing method for use in transferring data to a plurality of memory means of an output apparatus through a bi-directional interface, said program product comprising:

• selecting code, for causing selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to (1) a total capacity or as to (2) an available capacity of at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus, by using a displayed icon;
• outputting code, for causing outputting of a status request command and for inquiring as to the total or available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus selected in said selecting to the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface;
• inputting code, for causing inputting of status information indicating the selected total or available capacity of the memory means received from the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said outputting;
• and
• controlling code, for controlling display means to display the selected total or available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means on the basis of the status information input in said inputting.

An information processing apparatus which transfers data to memory means of a printer through a bi-directional interface, said information processing apparatus comprising:

• a selector for selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to an available capacity of the memory means of the printer, by designating a displayed icon;
• an output device for outputting a status request command for inquiring as to the available capacity of the memory means of the printer selected by said selector to the printer through the bi-directional interface;
• an input device for inputting status information indicating the selected available capacity of the memory means received from the printer through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output by said output device;
• and
• a display for displaying the selected available capacity of the memory means on the basis of the status information input by said input device.

A storage medium storing a program executed in an information processing apparatus which transfers data to memory means of a printer through a bi-directional interface, the program causing the apparatus to perform at least the steps of:

• selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to an available capacity of the memory means of the printer, by designating a displayed icon;
• outputting a status request command for inquiring as to the available capacity of the memory means of the printer selected in said selecting step to the printer through the bi-directional interface;
• inputting status information indicating the selected available capacity of the memory means received from the printer through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said outputting step;
• and
• displaying on display means the selected available capacity of the memory means on the basis of the status information input in said inputting step.

A program product executed in an information processing apparatus which transfers data to memory means of a printer through a bi-directional interface, with the program product being such as to cause the apparatus to perform at least the steps of:

• selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to an available capacity of the memory means of the printer, by designating a displayed icon;

An information processing apparatus which transfers data to a plurality of memory means of an output apparatus through a bi-directional interface, said information processing apparatus comprising:

• selection means for selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to an available capacity of at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus, by using a displayed icon;
• output means for outputting a status request command and for inquiring as to the available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus selected by said selection means to the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface;
• input means for inputting status information indicating the selected available capacity or the memory means received from the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output by said output means;
• and
• display control means for controlling display means to display the selected available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means on the basis of the status information input by said input means.

An information processing method for use in transferring data to a plurality of memory means of an output apparatus through a bi-directional interface, said method comprising the steps of:

• selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to an available capacity of at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus, by using a displayed icon;
• outputting a status request command and for inquiring as to the available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus selected in said selecting step to the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface;
• inputting status information indicating the selected available capacity of the memory means received from the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said outputting step;
• and
• controlling display means to display the selected available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means on the basis of the status information input in said inputting step.

A memory medium storing instructions for causing a programmable apparatus to perform an information processing method that is for use in transferring data to a plurality of memory means of an output apparatus through a bi-directional interface, said method comprising the steps of:

• selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to an available capacity of at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus, by using a displayed icon;
• outputting a status request command and for inquiring as to the available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus selected in said selecting step to the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface;
• inputting status information indicating the selected available capacity of the memory means received from the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said outputting step;
• and
• controlling display means to display the selected available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means an the basis of the status information input in said inputting step.

A program product for causing a programmable apparatus to perform an information processing method for use in transferring data to a plurality of memory means of an output apparatus through a bi-directional interface, said program product comprising:

• selecting codes for causing selecting, in response to selection information, whether to inquire as to an available capacity of at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus, by using a displayed icon;
• outputting code, for causing outputting of a status request command and for inquiring as to the available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means of the output apparatus selected in said selecting to the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface;
• inputting code, for causing inputting of status information indicating the selected available capacity of the memory means received from the output apparatus through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said outputting;
• and
• controlling code, for controlling display means to display the selected available capacity of the at least one of the plurality of memory means on the basis of the status information input in said inputting.

• inputting status information indicating the selected available capacity of the memory means received from the printer through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output in said output step;

• displaying on display means the selected available capacity of the memory means on the basis of the status information input in said input step.

• input means for inputting status information indicating the selected available capacity of the memory means received from the printer through the bi-directional interface in response to the status request command output by said output means;

• display means for displaying the selected available capacity of the memory means on the basis of the status information input by said input means.
