Abstract
A process for the preparation of 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7-triacetic acid and the salts thereof of formula (I) ##STR1## which comprises the following steps: a) carboxymethylation reaction of a suitable precursor in water, with a haloacetic acid, b) hydrolysis reaction in basic conditions by addition of the base added at the previous step.

A process for the preparation of 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7-triacetic acid and the salts thereof, which comprises the steps according to the following scheme ##STR13## a) carboxymethylation reaction under basic conditions starting from compound (III) or from compound (IV) , in water, with a haloacetic acid, to give intermediate (VI), which, without being isolated, undergoes the hydrolysis reaction described in subsequent step b);
- b) hydrolysis reaction of intermediate (VI) under basic conditions by addition of the same base as at step a), to give an aqueous solution of the salt of formula (VII), and which, without being isolated, can either be used as is or undergo subsequent
- c) recovery of compound (I).
