The use of an effective amount of a compound as an additive improving the compatibility of a lubricating oil formulation having dispersants containing basic nitrogen atoms, with fluorocarbon elastomer seals. That compound has the formula: ##STR1## wherein R and R.sup.1 are independently alkoxycarbonyl, alkenyloxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl, alkylcarbonyl, alkenylcarbonyl, arylcarbonyl, or arylalkyl, or together form a carbocycle, and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently sulfurized alkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl, arylalkyl, or borated hydroxyalkyl, with the proviso that R, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 together contain sufficient carbon atoms to render the compound oil soluble in an oil of lubricating viscosity.
A method for improving the compatibility with fluorocarbon elastomer seals of a lubricating oil formulation comprising dispersants containing basic nitrogen atoms, said method comprising either blending or mixing with said lubricating oil formulation an effective amount of a compound having the formula:
A lubricating oil formulation comprising:
A concentrate comprising about from 10 weight % to 90 weight % of a compatible organic liquid diluent and about from 0.5 weight % to 30 weight % of a compound having the formula:
A method of producing a lubricating oil composition comprising blending the following components together:
