Abstract
A purified thermostable enzyme is derived from the eubacterium T. maritima. The enzyme has a molecular weight as determined by gel electrophoresis of about 35 kilodaltons and has cellulase activity. The enzyme can be produced from native or recombinant host cells and can be used to aid in the digestion of cellulose where desired.
Claims11
An isolated recombinant polynucleotide sequence encoding a carboxymethyl cellulase having an amino acid sequence as set forth in SEQ ID NO:2.
An isolated polynucleotide selected from the group consisting of:
- a) SEQ ID NO:1;
- b) SEQ ID NO:1 wherein T can also be U;
- c) nucleic acid sequences complementary to a) and b);
- d) fragments of a), b), or c) that are at least 15 bases in length and that will hybridize to DNA which encodes the amino acid sequences of SEQ ID NO:2 under moderate to highly stringent conditions;
- and
- e) polynucleotides contained in ATCC deposit No. 97245.
