Abstract
A hydrogen-absorbing alloy which is excellent in stability in an aqueous solution and in mechanical pulverizability is disclosed. This hydrogen-absorbing alloy contains an alloy represented by the following general formula (I): Mg.sub.2 M1.sub.y (I) wherein M1 is at least one element selected (excluding Mg, elements which are capable of causing an exothermic reaction with hydrogen, Al and B) from elements which are incapable of causing an exothermic reaction with hydrogen; and y is defined as 1<y.ltoreq.1.5.
Claims22
A hydrogen-absorbing alloy comprising:
- an alloy represented by the following general formula (I):
- Mg.sub.2 M1.sub.y (I)
- wherein M1 is at least one first element selected from the group consisting of Ag, Cd, Mn, In, Fe, Ni, Co, Se, Sn, Ge, and Pb;
- wherein said alloy of formula (I) comprises a surface treated with R-X, wherein R is an alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or aryl group and X is a halogen;
- and y is defined as 1<y.ltoreq.1.5.
A negative electrode for battery containing a hydrogen-absorbing alloy comprising an alloy represented by the following general formula (I):
- Mg.sub.2 M1.sub.y (I)
- wherein M1 is at least one first element selected from the group consisting of Ag, Cd, Mn, In, Fe, Ni, Co, Se, Sn, Ge, and Pb,
- and wherein M1 further comprises at least one second element selected from the group consisting of Ag, In, Se, and Ge;
- said first element being different from said second element, the sum of the relative numbers of the first and second elements being equal to y;
- and y is defined as 1<y.ltoreq.1.5.
An alkali secondary battery comprising a negative electrode containing a hydrogen-absorbing alloy comprising an alloy represented by the following general formula (I):
- Mg.sub.2 M1.sub.y (I)
- wherein M1 is at least one first element selected from the group consisting of AP, Cd, Mn, In, Fe, Ni, Co, Se, Sn, Ge, and Pb,
- and wherein M1 further comprises at least one second element selected from the group consisting of Ag, In, Se, and Ge;
- said first element being different from said second element, the sum of the relative numbers of the first and second elements being equal to y;
- and y is defined as 1<y.ltoreq.1.5.
