Abstract
This invention is directed to solid compositions, for example, lyophilized forms, of fibrin monomer. These compositions are useful wherever fibrin monomer could be employed, e.g., as a surgical sealant to provide hemostasis.
Claims4
A composition consisting essentially of fibrin monomer wherein said composition is in solid form and is substantially free of an enzyme which catalyzes the cleavage of fibrinopeptides A and/or B from fibrinogen.
A composition consisting essentially of fibrin monomer, selected from this group consisting of fibrin I monomer, fibrin II monomer or des-BB fibrin monomer or mixtures of any of these, in a solid form wherein said fibrin monomer is prepared by a process comprising the steps of
- treating fibrinogen with an enzyme which catalyzes the cleavage of fibrinopeptides A and/or B from fibrinogen to form said fibrin monomer;
- removing substantially all of said enzyme from the soformed fibrin monomer;
- and
- collecting said fibrin monomer in solid form.
