Abstract
One embodiment of the invention includes an image display device. The image display device includes a projector for emitting an image, a screen on which the image is projected, and a mirror for reflecting the image from the projector toward the screen. The mirror has a planar surface reflection area and a curved surface reflection area continuous with the planar reflection area. Images projected onto the mirror are reflected with no distortion in one area and distortion in another area. The distorted area fills a portion of a user's peripheral vision. Also, the distorted area allows some embodiments of the invention to provide the user with a greater sense of motion.

An image display device comprising a projector for emitting an image, the image including moving images, at least a portion of the moving images appearing to move in a first direction, a display surface on which the image is projected, and a mirror for reflecting the image from the projector toward the display surface, wherein the mirror has a planar surface reflection area and a curved surface reflection area continuous thereto, the mirror being curved to distort the image in the first direction.
An image display device comprising a projector for emitting an image, a display surface on which the image is projected, and a mirror for reflecting the image from the projector toward the display surface, wherein the mirror has a planar surface reflection area and a surface surface reflection area continuous thereto, the mirror being curved to distort the image to give the illusion of motion, wherein the image display device has an image control circuit for controlling the image emitted from the projector, the image control circuit further for driving the projector so as to project an image moving in a first direction on the display surface, and the planar surface reflection area corresponding to an image that appears to be moving towards a reference position in the first direction, and a curved surface reflection area corresponding to an image that appears to be moving away from a reference position in the first direction.
A simulation device comprising:
- a projector for emitting an image, the image including moving images, at least a portion of the moving images appearing to move in a first direction;
- a display surface on which the image is projected;
- an input device for generating position information responsive to being manipulated;
- a reflective surface for reflecting the image from the projector towards the display surface, the reflective surface having a planar surface reflection area and a curved surface reflection area continuous thereto, the curved surface to distort the image in the first direction.
A simulation device comprising:
- a projector for emitting an image;
- a display surface on which the image is projected;
- an input device for generating position information responsive to being manipulated;
- a reflective surface for reflecting the image from the projector towards the display surface, the reflective surface having a planar surface reflection area and a curved surface reflection area continuous thereto, the reflective surface being curved to distort the image to give the illusion of motion, further including an image control circuit for controlling the image emitted from the projector, the image control circuit causing the projector to project the image on the display surface so as to provide the appearance of motion in a first direction, and the planar surface reflection area corresponding to an image that appears to be moving towards a reference position in the first direction, and a curved surface reflection area corresponding to an image that appears to be moving away from a reference position in the first direction.
An image display device comprising:
- a main display for displaying a main image;
- and
- a subdisplay disposed continuously with the main display, the subdisplay for displaying a distorted image, the distorted image being at least partially distorted along a first axis so as to provide an illusion of movement along the first axis.
A simulation device comprising:
- a main display means for displaying a main image;
- a subdisplay means for splaying a second image, the subdisplay means being disposed to display the second in age continuously with the main image, the second image including a distorted image portion, the distorted image portion being distorted in a direction defined between a point in the main image and a point in the second image;
- and
- an operation inputting means being positioned to allow viewing of the main image, the operation inputting means for receiving user input.
An image display device comprising a projector for emitting an image, a display surface on which the image is projected, and a mirror for reflecting the image from the projector toward the display surface, wherein the mirror has a planar surface reflection area and a curved surface reflection area continuous thereto, the mirror being curved to distort the image to give an illusion of motion and wherein the curved surface reflection area is provided at two opposing end portions of the mirror.
An image display device comprising a projector for emitting an image, a display surface on which the image is projected, and a mirror for reflecting the image from the projector toward the display surface, wherein the mirror has a planar surface reflection area and a curved surface reflection area continuous thereto, the mirror being curved to distort the image to give an illusion of motion and wherein the curved surface reflection area is provided all around the edges of the mirror.
