Abstract
This invention pertains to the discovery that condensation polymers of an aldehyde and aromatic sulfonic acids and fractions thereof, such as formaldehyde naphthalenesulfonic acid condensation polymers, can prevent pregnancy in an individual.
Claims18
A method of preventing pregnancy in an individual in need thereof, comprising vaginally administering to the individual an effective amount of a composition comprising a condensation polymer of an aromatic sulfonic acid and an aldehyde or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in a physiologically acceptable carrier, wherein the composition is administered prior to or after sexual intercourse.
A method of preventing pregnancy in an individual in need thereof comprising vaginally administering to the individual a gel comprising between about 1% to about 10% by weight of a condensation polymer of a naphthalene sulfonic acid and formaldehyde, wherein the composition is administered prior to or after sexual intercourse.
A method of preventing pregnancy in an individual in need thereof, comprising vaginally administering to the individual an effective amount of a composition comprising a condensation polymer of an aromatic sulfonic acid and an aldehyde or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in a physiologically acceptable carrier, wherein the composition inhibits hyaluronidase.
