Abstract
A catalyst system for selective hydrogenation of sulfur-containing and nitrogen-containing compounds of a heteroaromatic organic phase includes a mixture of a noble metal selected from Group VIII of the Periodic Table of Elements and a water-soluble ligand. A process for preparing the catalyst system and hydrogenation process using the catalyst system are also provided.
Claims9
A process for selective hydrogenation of sulfur-containing and nitrogen-containing compounds from a heteroaromatic organic phase, comprising reacting the organic phase with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst system comprising a mixture of noble metal selected from Group VIII of the Periodic Table of Elements and a water-soluble ligand selected from the group consisting of (1) m-monosulfonated triphenyl phosphine, (2) tri (m-sulfonated) triphenyl phosphine, (3) 2,2'-biquinoline-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid in dipotassium salt form, trihydrate, (4) 2,2'-biquinoline-5,5'-disulfonated in disodium salt form, dihydrate and mixtures thereof at reaction conditions so as to selectively hydrogenate sulfur-containing and nitrogen-containing compounds from the organic phase.
