Abstract
A transmission system for transmitting analog color video signals wherein a cable comprising multiple twisted pairs is employed, and certain of these pairs are coupled to carry selected color signals as a function of the delay provided by particular twist rates. In certain instances, selected signal delay devices are connected in circuit with certain twisted pairs. By such an arrangement, it has been found that relatively long distances between a computer and monitor may be spanned by relatively low-cost, twisted pair cable commonly used for telephone communications.
Claims19
A video color signal transmission system comprising:
- a first coupler providing video color signals including first (B), second (G), and third (R) video color signals;
- a plurality of first signal frequency shapers, each including circuit means responsive to signals from said first coupler for separately boosting the high frequency response of at least one of said video color signals;
- a transmission cable including first and second ends and including a plurality of twisted pair communications lines, each of said lines having first and second ends corresponding to those of said transmission cable, one of said communications lines being coupled at a said first end to one of said first signal frequency shapers and responsive to one of said video color signals and carrying a video color signal to a said second end of a said communications line and at a second end of said transmission cable;
- a plurality of second signal frequency shapers, each being responsive to said video color signals from said second end of a said communication line and boosting the high frequency response of a portion of a received video color signal;
- and
- an output coupler responsive to said second frequency shapers and separately receiving said video color signals and processing said color video signals;
- and
- wherein a discrete signal delay is effected by the discrete twist rate of one of said twisted pair communications lines.
A video color signal transmission system comprising:
- a signal circuit providing video color signals including first (B), second (G), and third (R) video color signals;
- each with respect to a common potential reference;
- a plurality of first signal modifiers, each said modifier including signal means for receiving one said video color signal from said signal circuit and providing a differential, balanced, output of each said video color signal;
- a transmission cable including first and second ends and including a plurality of twisted pair communications lines, each having first and second ends, one of said communications lines being coupled at its said first end to one of said first signal modifiers and to one of said video color signals and carrying a said video color signal to said second end of a said communications line, and each of said communications lines providing a discrete signal delay as a function of twist rate of said communications lines;
- a plurality of signal frequency shapers, each being responsive to signals from a said second end of a said communications line, and boosting the high frequency response of video color signal;
- and
- a plurality of second signal modifiers responsive to signals shaped by a said signal frequency shaper for translating the signal state of each video color signal from a balanced, differential, signal to a signal appearing with respect to a common reference, and
- coupling means for coupling the output of said signal shapers to a color video monitor.
