Abstract
An apparatus for forming a collagen fiber having microparticulates coated on the surface of the fiber and the method for forming the fiber are disclosed.
Claims26
A method for forming a collagen fiber having a microparticulate coating, said method comprising the steps of:
- extruding collagen into a coagulation bath containing a coagulation solution, thereby forming at least a partially hydrated collagen fiber;
- immersing said partially hydrated collagen fiber in a dehydrating solution contained in a dehydrating bath, thereby forming at least a partially dehydrated collagen fiber;
- suspending microparticulates in a fluid medium, thereby forming a microparticulate suspension;
- and
- passing said partially dehydrated collagen fiber through said microparticulate suspension, thereby forming a microparticulate coating on said partially dehydrated collagen fiber.
