Valve and method for assembling the same

A method for assembling a first fluid coupling adapted for connection to a second fluid coupling, the first fluid coupling including:

• a housing having a front end and a back end, the housing defining a flow passageway extending longitudinally between the front and back ends and also defining a transverse slot oriented generally transversely with respect to a longitudinal axis of the housing;
• a clip member mounted in the housing slot, the clip member being moveable within the slot between a first position in which the clip member is adapted for retaining the second fluid coupling within the housing, and a second position in which the second fluid coupling can be inserted into or removed from front end of the housing;
• a poppet member fixedly mounted within the housing;
• a sleeve mounted within the housing that is moveable relative to the poppet member between a first position in which the flow passageway is open and a second position in which the flow passageway is closed;
• and a spring for biasing the sleeve toward the second position, the method comprising the steps of:
• inserting the spring into the housing through the front end of the housing;
• inserting the sleeve into the housing through the front end of the housing, wherein the spring is biased between the sleeve and the housing;
• inserting the clip member into the transverse slot such that the clip functions to retain the sleeve within the housing during assembly;
• and
• inserting the poppet member into the housing through the front end of the housing, wherein a portion of the poppet member extends through the sleeve and the poppet member is connected to the housing by a snap-fit connection.
