Abstract
Disclosed herein is a game ball, such as a golf ball, having an indicia formed from a UV curable ink containing aluminum trihydroxide (ATH) filler. The ATH improves pad transfer of the ink. An ink composition suitable for pad printing, and a method for applying an indicia to a game ball also are disclosed. The UV curable ink has excellent pad transfer properties, and good durability.
Claims14
A game ball having a surface and an indicia adhered to the surface, the indicia comprising a UV curable ink containing aluminum trihydroxide, the impact resistance of the ink and the adhesion between the indicia and the surface being sufficient to render the game ball suitable for use in competitive play.
A method of applying an indicia to a game ball, comprising the steps of:
- a. obtaining an ink composition containing a coloring agent, aluminum trihydroxide, a photoinitiator, and a UV curable resin,
- b. applying the ink composition in the form of the indicia by pad printing,
- c. curing the ink composition to form a cured film, and
- d. applying a coating over the ink, the indicia having an impact resistance sufficient to render the game ball suitable for use in competitive play.
