Abstract
A liquid composition for applying a non-leachable antimicrobial coating on a surface. The liquid composition consists of a solution, dispersion or suspension of a biguanide polymer reacted with a cross-linking agent to form an adduct, and an antimicrobial metal material. The resulting antimicrobial coating does not release biocidal levels of leachables into surrounding solution.
Claims9
A liquid composition for applying a non-leachable antimicrobial layer or coating on a surface, comprising a solution, dispersion or suspension of a biguanide polymer, a cross-linker reacted with the biguanide polymer to form an adduct, and an antimicrobial metal, metal salt or metal complex, wherein said metal, metal salt or metal complex forms a complex with said adduct, and wherein said antimicrobial layer or coating does not release biocidal levels of leachables into a contacting solution.
A liquid composition for applying an antimicrobial layer or coating on a surface, comprising a solution, dispersion or suspension of polyhexamethylene biguanide, a cross-linker reacted with the biguanide polymer to form an adduct, and a silver salt, wherein said silver salt forms a complex with said adduct, and wherein said antimicrobial layer or coating does not release biocidal levels of leachables into a contacting solution.
