Abstract
The present invention provides a process for the synthesis of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated ester from a mono-olefin-ester using Fe(CO).sub.5.
Claims22
A process for the synthesis of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated ester, the process comprising:
- (a) exposing a mixture of a mono-olefin-ester and Fe(CO).sub.5 to ultraviolet radiation;
- and
- (b) adding a coordinating ligand or oxidizing agent to the mixture under conditions effective to produce an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated ester.
A process for the synthesis of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated ester, the process comprising:
- (a) combining a mono-olefin-ester and Fe(CO).sub.5 under conditions effective to form Fe(CO).sub.3 (.eta..sup.4 -.alpha.,.beta.-ester);
- and
- (b) adding a displacing reagent to the Fe(CO).sub.3 (72.sup.4 -.alpha.,.beta.-ester) to displace the .alpha.,.beta.-ester ligand and form free .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated ester.
A process for the synthesis of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated ester, the process comprising:
- (a) exposing Fe(CO).sub.5 to ultraviolet radiation in the presence of a weakly coordinating ligand to form Fe(CO).sub.3 L.sub.x, wherein L represents the weakly coordinating ligand and x=1 or 2;
- (b) adding a mono-olefin-ester to the Fe(CO).sub.3 L.sub.x to form Fe(CO).sub.3 (.eta..sup.4 -.alpha.,.beta.-ester);
- and
- (c) adding a displacing reagent to the Fe(CO).sub.3 (.eta..sup.4 -.alpha.,.beta.-ester) to displace the .alpha.,.beta.-ester ligand and form free .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated ester.
1 more element
A process for the synthesis of an ester, the process comprising:
- (a) combining a mono-olefin-ester and Fe(CO).sub.5 under conditions effective to form Fe(CO).sub.3 (.eta..sup.4 -.alpha.,.beta.-ester);
- and
- (b) treating Fe(CO).sub.3 (.eta..sup.4 -.alpha.,.beta.-ester) with an electrophile to form an ester.
