Abstract
The invention provides a human metaxin protein and polynucleotides which identify and encode MTXP-1. The invention also provides expression vectors, host cells, agonists, antibodies and antagonists. The invention also provides methods for treating disorders associated with expression of MTXP-1.

An isolated and purified polynucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide involved in embryonic development, wherein the polypeptide comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1.
An isolated and purified polynucleotide sequence comprising SEQ ID NO:2.
A method for producing a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1, the method comprising the steps of:
- a) culturing the host cell of claim 10 under conditions suitable for the expression of the polypeptide;
- and
- b) recovering the polypeptide from the host cell culture.
