Abstract
A polypeptide having immunological activity for use as a diagnostic reagent for the HIV. The polypeptide comprises a substantial portion of each of more than one of the constituent proteins coded for by the HIV-pol gene, namely the amino acid sequences of the reverse transcriptase, RNase H and integrase enzymes coded for by the HIV-pol gene and the amino acid sequences of part of the protease enzyme coded for by the HIV-pol gene, but omitting the active site responsible for proteolytic activity.
Claims2
A method of testing for exposure of an organism to HIV, which comprises providing an HIV antigen, contacting said antigen with a sample from said organism and detecting any antigen-antibody complexes created as a result of said contact as indicative of exposure of said organism to HIV, said antigen being a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:22.
A diagnostic kit for detecting antibodies to HIV antigens wherein said kit contains, as a test reagent, a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:22.
