Production of trifluoroethylene from 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane and/or 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane in a heated reaction zone in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst.

A process for the production of trifluoroethylene which comprises passing a gaseous feed comprising 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane and/or 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane through a heated reaction zone in which there is contained a Lewis acid catalyst comprising chromia.
