Abstract
An .alpha.-amylase characterized by having a specific activity at least 25% higher than the specific activity of Termamyl.RTM. at a temperature in the range of 25.degree. C. to 55.degree. C. and at a pH value in the range of pH 8 to pH 10.
Claims13
A DNA construct comprising a DNA sequence encoding an .alpha.-amylase having the same activity as an .alpha.-amylase obtained from an alkalophilic Bacillus species, having a molecular weight of approximately 55 kD as determined by SDS-PAGE, a specific activity at least 25% higher than the specific activity of a Bacillus licheniformis .alpha.-amylase having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO. 4 at a temperature in the range of 25.degree. C. to 55.degree. C. and at a pH value in the range of 8 to 10, and comprising the amino acid sequence depicted in SEQ ID No. 1 or SEQ ID No. 2.
