Toner for developing electrostatic image

A negatively chargeable toner for developing an electrostatic image comprising non-magnetic colorant-containing resin particles having a weight average particle diameter from 4 .mu.m to 10 .mu.m and amorphous fine titanium oxide particles having been subjected to hydrophobic treatment in a carrier gas to provide hydrophobicity of 10 to 80%;

• said colorant-containing resin particles containing a binder resin, a colorant and a negative charge control agent;
• said amorphous fine titanium oxide particles being externally added in an amount of 0.01 to 5% by weight based on the weight of the colorant-containing resin particles;
• wherein said amorphous fine titanium oxide particles comprise primary particles having an average particle diameter from 1 m.mu. to 40 m.mu. and having an average particle diameter from 5 m.mu. to 80 m.mu. for those present on said colorant-containing resin particles,
• wherein said toner has a bulk density from 0.35 g/cm.sup.3 to 0.5 g/cm.sup.3.
