Abstract
A fiber treating composition and the emulsion of the composition, containing poly-N-vinylalkylamides and/or copolymers thereof, and polyols and/or derivatives thereof; and a synthetic filament production process with melt-spinning at 1,000 m/min or more spinning speed, wherein the above fiber treating composition is applied.

A fiber treatment composition which comprises (1) at least one member selected from the group consisting of poly(N-vinylalkylamides) having repeating units of formula I:
- ##STR3## in which R.sub.1 is H or an alkyl group having 1-3 carbon atoms, and R.sub.2 is an alkyl group having 1-5 carbon atoms and copolymers containing the N-vinylalkylamide units in the amount of not less than 50 mol %;
- and (2) di- or more valent water soluble polyols and/or derivatives thereof;
- in the weight ratio of (1):(2) being 1:5 to 1:300.
